After making four birdies on the final five holes, Harold Varner III finds himself tied for 19th place at 1-over at the PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y.
Varner III, 32, capped off his day by draining a 20-foot putt for birdie on the 18th hole. That marked three birdies in a row to end the second round. The par-4 17th hole has been an issue for the golfers at Oak Hill, producing only a 4 percent birdie rate on a 4.4 stroke scoring average on Friday, but Varner managed it with no problem.
After missing the cut in his first PGA Championship in 2016 at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J., Varner III will extend his streak of made cuts at the major to five. His best finish came in 2020 where he tied for 29th place at Harding Park in San Francisco.
Bringing "Big Mo" with him into the weekend.
