Don’t try this at home. Ditching the putter on the green is normally frowned upon but Mark Hubbard pulled it off with his third shot on the par-4 seventh hole Sunday during the final round of the PGA Championship at Oak Hill.
After Hubbard’s second shot landed on the green, he was 56 feet away from the hole. The 33-year-old opted to leave his putter in the bag. By sending the shot airborne with a wedge, Hubbard’s ball could avoid any hilly parts or bumpy patches that could unpredictably steer a putt away from the cup.
The chip set up an easy par chance which Hubbard took advantage of when he then brought out the putter to sink the 4-foot putt.
Hubbard finished the day shooting 4-over-par 74 and concluded his second PGA Championship at 18 over. Hubbard’s other appearance came in 2020 where he finished in a tie for 51st place.
