PGA Championship week is one of the best in all golf because it celebrates the fun aspects of the game. From coaching to tournaments, PGA Professionals do it all both on and off the course. In keeping with their innovative offerings each year, the game and technical minds behind the entertainment at Oak Hill have developed a one-of-a kind fantasy game.
BUILD YOUR PGA CHAMPIONSHIP FANTASY TEAM
You can enter a team alone, or even create a group and compete with friends. There’s no doubt this will make everyone’s tournament experience more interesting. Aside from the instructions, anyone who enters does want to win. Follow along my journey to creating the best fantasy team for the 105th PGA Championship.
Teams are selected by choosing players in four separate categories.
Past Champion
I’m taking Brooks Koepka. He leads the major championships in scoring average over the last six years. This course sets up exactly like the 2019 PGA Championship at Bethpage Black. Koepka’s the best par-70 scorer in all cases and an awesome building block to start your team.
Note: Don’t lose sight of selecting someone in all four categories as you build out your team. If you are on the fence between Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, and Brooks Koepka, take the matching age guy here to ensure you have both on your team.
Under 30
While everyone is going to pick Jon Rahm or Scottie Scheffler, I’m going in another direction. Xander Schauffele has 10 top-10 finishes in his last 23 major championships. Ranked first in the field for par-5 scoring over 600 yards, Schauffele’s ability to score on every type of hole, will earn more fantasy points than the competition.
Over 30
Oak Hill will be a complete test from tee-to-green. Off the tee, the current best in the world is Patrick Cantlay. Throw in the fact he has five career wins on bentgrass greens, and he’ll be scoring plenty of points. Most will go Rory here, but using Cantlay who just picked up Tiger’s former caddie Joe LaCava is the play for the 30-somethings.
Corebridge Financial PGA Team
Alex Beach has played in five PGA Championships starting in 2017 and then 2019 through 2022. He has more experience than any other PGA Professional. Beach can call upon a solid opening round at Southern Hills last year, his outstanding play at Harding Park, and the overall length experience of Bethpage Black to sperate himself from the other PGA Team members.
