Scottie Scheffler entered the 2022 PGA Championship as the only person with an opportunity to win the Grand Slam in men’s golf in 2022. The World No. 1 and Masters Champion played in an afternoon feature group at Southern Hills that put him alongside Jon Rahm and Collin Morikawa. A group of the top three players in the world had the place buzzing.
Considering the circumstance, it would’ve been easy for Scheffler, 25, to be overlooked; Rahm displays brute power and force while Morikawa is widely considered the best iron player in the game. But Scheffler has proved that he’s great at everything, hence the No. 1 ranking.
Scheffler made the first impressive move of the bunch Thursday when he overpowered the beast of a par-5 fifth hole that played 665 yards. It was no match for Scheffler.
After a 348-yard drive, Scheffler took a massive swipe with a 3-wood from 308 yards. The ball landed short, took a couple small bounces and rolled onto the green, ending just 10 feet from the hole. Scheffler paid off the impressive shot by making the putt for eagle.
Take a look.
