On a quest to become the sixth golfer to complete a career Grand Slam, Jordan Spieth has arrived at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y. in preparation for the PGA Championship. Spieth withdrew from last week’s AT&T Byron Nelson due to a left wrist injury, and his status for this week was unknown.

However, Spieth hit practice shots for more than an hour on the practice range Tuesday, then went out to play nine holes with world No. 1 Jon Rahm although his wrist was heavily taped and he had black Kinesio tape that ran from his wrist to his elbow.
Despite going winless at the PGA Championship, Spieth has performed remarkably well in this tournament including top-three finishes in 2015 and 2019. There are only four 72-hole scores to par lower than Spieth’s 17-under performance in 2015 at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis. Unfortunately for Spieth, that only resulted in a second-place finish. Jason Day shot 20-under that week, the lowest score to par in tournament history.
Spieth’s performance after 36 rounds total in 10 PGA contests ranks No. 6 all-time in lowest scoring average (at 70.42) among all golfers who have played a minimum of 20 rounds. He is grouped with Shane Lowry and Viktor Hovland for the first two rounds this week at Oak Hill.
Spieth’s last PGA TOUR victory came at RBC Heritage at Harbour Town in Hilton Head, S.C. in April 2022 by outdueling Patrick Cantlay in a one-hole playoff.
